The Center has six main rooms and two large
halls. The rooms and main hall are named forBelmont’s early doctors. Each area contains
furnishings, artifacts, and pictures which tell the history of Belmont from the time of
the Indians who wandered through and camped here, up through the textile age.
One room contains a TV/DVD on which videos of oral histories, early times in
Belmont, and other subjects can be selected and viewed. You may see an ancestor
of yours on one of the old videos of the 1930’s era. A library contains books
about Belmont’s
early history, genealogies of some families, etc. These can be used at the
center for research or just pleasure. Showcases throughout the house contain
artifacts and displays pertinent to the history of the greater Belmont area. A timeline
in the hall will help you get a grasp of the major developments in Belmont’s history.
Belmont’s Sports Hall of Fame is housed in one of
the halls, where you will also find a scale model of one of Belmont’s best-known sports
facilities - Davis Park. Some of our displays will be changing periodically, so
there will always be something different for you to see.
Donations of
artifacts that are pertinent to the history of Belmont may be accepted. These should be items
for which we have room for display or storage. Check the Donations page to see
how to make a donation.
Above is examples of the many local artifacts that
exist within the Belmont Historical Society Center. The pictures do not do the
items justice. You need to come in and see for yourself all the local
history.
Below is an example of artifacts that represent the residents of
the Belmont area long before Belmont or Garibalidi was a
town.
